Southwest Florida is lucky to boast airport quality like no other. And Venice is in the heart of the airport "triangle." To the north is Tampa International Airport, handling about 20 million passengers per year and in the process of increasing its capacity even farther. To the south in Ft. Myers is Southwest Florida International Airport, rated one of the top 50 airports in the U.S. for passenger traffic. A just a short distance to the north, in our neighboring city of Sarasota, is Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, an smaller airport, yet with international capacity, has a user-friendly terminal and attractively maintained surroundings that exemplify the best of Florida. 1.7 miles from downtown Venice, sits the Venice Municipal Airport, a small aviation facility used primarily for private planes and charter planes, with the occasional small jet and helicopter. Don't expect to be able to hop in a cab to this airport and catch a flight unless you have previous arrangements with a private pilot or charter company. Because the other three airports around Venice are all International and are all a relatively short distance, it is recommended to shop around for the best price and the most convenient times!

DESCRIPTION
Venice Municipal Airport...a delightful mix of history and functionality. Built in the early 1940's by the US Government, Venice Municipal Airport served as a World War II flight training facility and then was given to the City of Venice after the war. It is built on 835 acres of land only 1.7 miles south of downtown Venice. Two 5,000 foot runways intersect each other, both 150 foot wide utilizing current lighting and flight technology.
The majority of the air traffic traveling to and stored at Venice Municipal are small single-engine aircraft, with fewer multi-engine and an occasional jet and helicopter. Major airlines do not service this airport; unless there are particular arrangements made with a private service, charter pilot or you are a pilot, it is not possible to fly home from here.
